KAPILVASTU, Feb 18: The land mafia have registered 4.5 bighas of government land in the name of an individual in Kapilvastu. Despite being fallow public land, the land mafia registered the land plot in question in the name of an individual in Banganga Municipality-8 of Kapilvastu.

BARA, Feb 18: The locals of Rampurwa in Kolhabi Municipality-9 of Bara district picketed the District Administration Office (DAO) on Sunday demanding action against the land mafia who are selling public land to the general public.

The glaring government apathy toward rising cases of public land grab and encroachment is deplorable. Such cases are being reported with troubling frequency. Republica reported about Lalita Niwas scandal.

DHARAN, April 15: Even though the government had already relocated the families from Surdu Watershed area which is the prime source of water supply for Dharan, it has been found that hundreds of Bighas of land in the watershed area have already been captured by various individuals.

DHARAN, Oct 23: A 39 bigha (6.26 hectares) stretch of land in Barahakshetra Municipality-2, Sunsari district was surveyed some five decades ago. Back then, the survey measurements were recorded in the field book but no land ownership certificate was provided because of a conflicting claim. Taking advantage of the lack of ownership certificate, the so-called land mafia is currently fighting tooth and nail to capture the land, it has come to light.
