Madhyapur, December 15: The Madhyapur Thimi municipality has honoured double gold medallist Mandekaji Shrestha. A resident of ward no. 4 of the municipality, Shrestha was honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 555,555 and a letter of citation.
Nepal tops the karate medal chart with nine golds, four silvers and two bronzes while Pakistan is second with three golds, seven silvers and six bronzes. Bangladesh also has three golds but is on third in chart since it is five silvers short of Pakistan. It has nine bronze medals. Sri Lanka has two silvers and 13 bronzes and Bhutan has only one bronze medal.
PATNA, April 24: Nepal finished as a winner in the International Open Karate and Kick Boxing championship that concluded here Tuesday. Nepali athletes won 20 gold medals. In the event held at the Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Nepal came first while India and Bangladesh came second and third respectively.
NEPALGUNJ, April 23: Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Raju Rai has bagged five gold medals in the ongoing 19th Men’s and seventh Women’s National Gymnastic Tournament at the Eighth National Games on Monday. Rai also claimed a silver medal to his name.
KATHMANDU, April 20: A national team of the Japan Goju-Ryo Karate Do Mission Association left here today for India, representing Nepal in the International Karate and Kick-boxing Championship to be held in Patna, India. The 35-member team is led by association's chief instructor KB Rana (Kaji).

KATHMANDU, May 5: Nepal’s Karate team has left for Japan on Friday to take part in 17th AKF Junior and CADET U-21 Karate Championship to be hosted by Japan Karate Federation. The tournament is scheduled for May 7 to 13 in Okinawa, Japan.
KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The National Sports Council (NSC)’s Member-secretary Keshav Kumar Bista on Saturday claimed that the continuous conflict between different associations in karate will soon be resolved.
CALIFORNIA, Oct 10: Karate player Ujjawal Thakuri has got his name registered in the Guinness World Records. Thakuri has set a new record by lifting 63.58 kilograms weight amid a programme in the USA. He broke the record of a man, who lifted 50-kilogram weight earlier.
KATHMANDU, July 16: Arati Thapa and Ishara Karki bagged gold medals on the opening day of First Madan Bhandari School Level National Karate Championship on Sunday. Arati of Prashansha Dojo defeated Suhana Rana of Genius School in the girls’ U-20 kg category final while Sandhya Thapa and Aisha Thapa won bronze medals in the same event.
