KATHMANDU, Jan 17: The central office of the Public Service Commission (PSC) has published the results of the written examinations conducted for various service groups, categories and posts in mid-August 2023.

This particular crime falls under various laws, including those concerning organized crime, fraud, anti-money laundering, and the civil code. Charges of corruption against government officials who have accepted bribes can only be filed once the police investigation is concluded. Subsequently, the case can be referred to the CIAA. Furthermore, the police can initiate action in cases of money laundering involving the implicated individuals.

On transitional justice, we are very keen to see it brought to a good positive conclusion for the good of the nation. We are not by any means the only partner. I would say the entire international community is very interested and seeking to be supportive of what happens there. I think it is important to note, though, that from our perspective, it has to be Nepali-led; it has to be victim-centric and it has to be something that addresses the need and meets the high standards that are required to bring peace and settle a long term conflict in a way that is good for the nation as a whole.

Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel and UML Vice-chair Subash Chandra Nembang are the two candidates in the presidential election slated for March 9. While Paudel has the support of eight parties, so far, Nembang is backed by only the UML. With the presidential election less than a week away, Republica’s Pushpa Bhatta caught up with Nembang for an interview. Excerpts:

Nepal and the Philippines may be geographically far apart, but these two countries share many similarities that bring them together. Despite limited bilateral interactions, people to people relations between the two countries are already strong. As both the countries are largely agrarian-based economies and major sources of migrant workers for Gulf countries, they also share common issues and concerns at the regional and global levels. As social media platforms have emerged as an important tool of election campaign, the EC equally faces a newer challenge to contain misinformation, disinformation and hate speech and ensure effective implementation of the election code of conduct this time.

Dr Biswo Nath Poudel is the Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), an advisory body for formulating development plans and policies of the government. Dr Poudel holds a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Previously, he served as the Executive Director of the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He keeps a close tab on the developments that pertain to the South Asian region and their implications for Nepal. As Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is leaving for New Delhi on a three-day official visit to India on Friday, Republica's Kosh Raj Koirala sat with him to understand the significance of the visit and the priorities and concerns Nepal should raise.
