India hikes taxes on petrol, diesel; says consumers will be unaffected

NEW DELHI, May 6: India late on Tuesday increased its taxes and duties on petrol and diesel instead of passing on the benefit of lower crude oil prices to consumers, as the government moves to raise revenues in an economy that ground to a halt in the coronavirus crisis.

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: At a time when the people have been alarmed over the increased taxes on different headings at local levels, a study team formed under a Ministry has upheld people's concern that the local levels imposed tax without assessing their capacity.
