Save the wetlands

Nepal’s natural diversity is perhaps exemplary for the whole world. The country has Himalayas, mountains, hills, valleys and the plains all within its small area.  And it is also the country of the wetlands—which include rivers, lakes, swampy rice fields, ponds and waterlogged areas—covering around six percent of Nepal’s surface area.

The government hopes that its new community-based forest and biodiversity management plan would address the crisis and avert further damage to the terrain caused by loss of forest and habitat due to the traditional slash-and-burn method of agriculture, overgrazing, infrastructure as well as poaching.

Navigating the snowy paradise

As monsoon and winter in Himalayas seem fierce, early October to November is high time to watch the snow-capped mountains from the Kanchanjunga Base Camp (KBC). One of the great Himalayan trails of Nepal; the camp is a major hub for the tourists visiting the country every year. A flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur with a further seven-hour ride to Taplejung marks off the trekking trail to KBC. The journey comprises of 24-26 days of trekking that concludes at Oktang in the South point and PangPema in the North point of the camp. A 15-day package travelling to either of the points is however a matter of choice.

Among the many attractions and activities to do in Kathmandu, a flight-seeing tour of Nepal's Himalayas is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Mountain flights can be enjoyed by anyone, from young kids to adults.
