Hills are bleeding

Take a trip out of Kathmandu – anywhere. The hills are scarred, and it seems beyond repair. One should not be surprised to come across massive hills, even precarious and unsteady hillocks by the side of the road, being bulldozed and flattened to make way for plotting, village roads, eateries, and businesses. There is no method in this madness, merely greed. Generations will have to pay for the risks generated by this greed.

ILAM, Sept 28: The beautiful hills of Ilam and thrilling bicycle ride there. What could be more thrilling than this, claims well known cyclist Pushkar Shah. On Monday the 37th world tourism day was marked by bicyclists across the globe through countless formal and informal programs. The same day, a group led by Shah was paddling their cycles hard in the muddy fields of eastern hills. Though incessant rainfall in the past few days had left the cycling trek muddy and slippery, it could not stop the group from going ahead of their plans to ride bicycle in green hills to mark the tourism day.

KALIKOT, June 12: They had a dream to see vehicles plying in their place as in any other towns of the country. But this dream seemed to remain a dream because of weak governance, disturbed polity and above all the seemingly impossible rocky hills. However, Nepal Army has answered their patience lastly. Locals in Karnali are thrilled that they could recently see four wheelers playing on the stretches of the Karnali road that the NA had started constructing since last year. A feat that remained unachieved by others in the past two decades.
