KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The Ministry of Health and Population has constituted an 11-member committee chaired by Ministry's additional secretary Dr Tanka Barakoti to coordinate with respective bodies for the security of health professionals.

In a commendable move, Minister of Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, has announced a plan to curtail unnecessary foreign medical trips by the country's VIPs and VVIPs at the expense of the taxpayers' money. This decision marks a significant step towards developing robust healthcare infrastructure within the country, benefiting local citizens equally.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has been an opener for the entire world, reminding us of the critical importance of a well-prepared and robust healthcare system. Nepal, too, has witnessed the dire consequences of a shortage of healthcare professionals during this crisis. It is now evident that we need to take proactive measures and implement a comprehensive plan to meet the increasing demand for health professionals in the coming years

KATHMANDU, June 7: Beating up health workers is punishable according to the new provisions incorporated in the Ordinance on the Security of Health Workers and Health Institutions.

Doctors, nurses and health staff have to face occupational hazards, including infectious diseases, contaminated puncture wounds, radiation, solvent and chemical exposures, and psychological stress among others.
