Forest fire victim dies

RANJHA, May 11: Bhairab BK who was injured in a forest fire in the Malya forest at Aathbis Municipality-6 in Dailekh has died. BK, 55, died at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj on Wednesday night, said the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Badri Chapagain.

Natural disasters such as forest fires can cause significant damage to both the natural areas and livelihoods. These uncontrolled and rapidly spreading combustions consume the natural fuels of a forest, posing a threat not only to the forest wealth but also to the entire flora and fauna, disturbing the biodiversity, ecology, and environment of the region.

As Nepal grapples with an alarming increase in forest fires, with 379 incidents reported in 17 districts on a single day on April 19, it is evident that urgent action is needed to combat this pressing environmental crisis. The Department of Forests and Soil Conservation has declared this year's numbers to be the highest on record, with forest fires becoming more frequent and widespread due to factors such as rising temperatures, unfavorable weather conditions, presence of flammable materials in forests, and territorial difficulties.

KATHMANDU, April 20: With the increase in minimum temperature in recent periods, incidents of forest fire have increased all of sudden.

MANANG, Feb 14: Forest fire in Mukhung Community Forest in Nisyang Rural Municipality-2 is yet to come under control. The fire started on February 11.

However, at the time, the locals were able to contain it within some hours.  However, this year, locals remained helpless as the fire raged through the forest and destroyed it. Fire lept through the woods on Wednesday and locals have been powerless in bringing it under control.

Hilinhang, March 17: A forest fire in Hilihang rural municipality-3 has engulfed six houses near the forest. The fire in the human settlement has been put out while it continues to rage in the forest.
