KATHMANDU, Aug 1: A probe committee formed to investigate the controversial construction of Hotel Water Front owned by tourism entrepreneur Karna Shakya on the banks of Fewa Lake has found that some portion of the hotel has been constructed on public land.

Supreme Court on Sunday issued an interim order in the name of government to demolish illegal infrastructures built on the banks of the Fewa Lake, paving the way for the conservation of the lake.

In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court has issued mandamus order to the government authorities to conserve the Fewa lake even if it requires demolishing the already built illegal strucutres.

Fewa encroachment raised in parliament

KATHMANDU, August 11: The issue of Fewa Lake encroachment has entered the parliament on Friday.

Various studies show that locals have encroached upon Fewa Lake, but the government has not taken any measure to save the lake. Physical structures have already been built on the encroached area of the lake. Republica’s Pokhara correspondent Santosh Pokharel interviewed key stakeholders in Pokhara about the encroachment. Excerpts: so

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: It has come to light that the Waterfront Resort being run on the banks of Fewa Lake in Pokhara by tourism entrepreneur Karna Shakya was built and operated without permission from the government bodies concerned.

POKHARA, Aug 11: Police on Thursday morning recovered bodies of the two youths who had gone missing when their boat capsized in Fewa Lake four days ago.

POKHARA, Aug 9: The whereabouts of the two youths missing in Fewa Lake since Monday afternoon is still unknown. The search for them was underway till this evening.
