DHANGADI, July 23: The paddy cultivated in most of the districts of Province-7 has started drying up in lack of monsoon-triggered rain here.

KATHMANDU, March 29: A recent study conducted by environmentalists and geologists has come up with an alarming finding that the rapid melting of glaciers with both horizontal and vertical retreats observed in recent years poses threats of cause drying up of several rivers or increase significantly the risks of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) across Hindu Kush Himalayan region.

Water sources fast drying up

SIRAHA, Feb 20: Located on the east-west highway near Lahan, Lalpur village is famous for vegetable farming. When the village was merged into Golbajar municipality a few months ago, the villagers were elated, hoping to receive more services to boost their businesses. However, unlike what they had thought, they are now faced with the serious problem of water shortage. Let alone water for irrigation, the locals do not have adequate water even for drinking. The water crisis has bothered everyone in Golbajar now, thanks to the fast drying water sources.

JUMLA, June 12: About a week ago, locals of Chandannath Municipality-13 in Jumla district chased down and badly wounded a barking deer that had wandered into their village from a nearby forest in search of water. The animal was saved from death only after the locals of neighboring Chandannath VDC-14 intervened and informed the District Forest Office (DFO), Jumla.
