Why does Nepal matter for China?

Nepal has historically strong relations with China. In fact, many Nepalis have little knowledge about Nepal’s relation with Tibet and that it was easier and safer compared to travel towards the south, at least until the 19th century.

Politicians, especially those from the communist parties of Nepal, have always fed the general public with anti-Indian sentiments. From the first communist Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari to the Maoist Supremo Puspa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', and KP Sharma Oli, all have raised and fueled anti-Indian sentiments to get to power and popularity.

KATHMANDU, April 30: The diplomatic relation between Nepal and the United States has entered 75 years. A number of programs were organized this week to mark the 75th founding anniversary of the Nepal-US diplomatic relations.

The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and the People’s Republic of China are celebrating 65 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations. These 65 years have been momentous in the history of both countries. China and Nepal have made transition to republic from a feudal system, and took determined efforts to come out of direct and indirect colonial influences.

Six decades of flooded ties

Recently, I had the privilege of listening to Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri who coursed a journey of 70 years of India’s diplomatic relation with Nepal within a time span of one hour. His charismatic presentation captivated the audience, with frequent bursts of laughter.
