DHARAN, May 22: Independent candidate Harka Raj Rai (Sampang) has secured his victory in the mayoral race of Dharan Sub-metropolis. There are only 3,284 votes left to count while Sampang is leading by 4,281 votes against his closest rival from the five-party alliance Kishor Rai. Even if Kishor receives all the remaining votes, Sampang will still win the elections.
DHARAN, May 18: The ongoing vote counting of various wards of Dharan Metropolitan City-20 has been postponed following a dispute that erupted after 18 ballot papers without the signature of the election officials were found. BIRATNAGAR, June 23: After infecting hundreds of people in Dharan, the dengue outbreak has started spreading aggressively in other parts of eastern Tarai including Biratnagar, the capital of Province 1.
On May 24, a 29-years old lady visited Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital (STIDH) for medical and laboratory tests after she was diagnosed of dengue in Dharan. STIDH’s test confirmed dengue. She had developed high fever, nausea, severe joint pain, rash, body ache but there was no history of pain behind the eyes. She said that several others in her town had showed similar symptoms. This was the first observation of beginning of dengue outbreak in Dharan.
DHARAN, June 11: Five days ago, a search and destroy campaign was launched in Dharan to bring the dengue outbreak under control. Local representatives, health workers and various organisations were actively involved in destroying the larva of the mosquitoes that transmit dengue.
DHARAN, June 7: After failing to control the spread of dengue in Dharan, Nepal Provincial Health Directorate (PHD) has said the disease has become an epidemic and declared some wards of Dharan Sub-metropolitan city as crisis-hit areas.
As the authorities are being criticized for failing to destroy the eggs and larvae of mosquitoes spreading the dengue fever in Dharan, doctors at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) have identified 32 more dengue patients on Tuesday alone.
