KATHMANDU, Oct 8: The government has reopened the licenses for the crusher industries asking them to abide by the new guidelines.

MAKWANPUR, Dec 24: Most of the crusher and sand processing plants being operated in Makawanpur district in Bagmati Province have been found operating against the stipulated criteria and standards.

BARA, Sept 26: Dozens of crusher plants in the district are still in operation even after their licenses were scrapped for flouting regulations. The plants which, by rule, cannot operate near human settlements, temple, wildlife reserves, health post and schools, among other sensitive zones, have been running in the vicinity of such landmarks.

POKHARA, July 26: Gandaki Province government has introduced its own set of operation guidelines for crusher industries. The new guideline details rules for excavation, collection and distribution of stone and sand.

LALITPUR, May 24: The majority of the crusher industries operating inside the Kathmandy valley have not heeded to calls for controlling pollution.

DOLAKHA, May 18: Stones and sand among other resources extracted from the Tama Koshi River are being black-marketed with involvement of crusher plants operating ion the banks of the river.

SIRAHA, May 8: Several unnamed and unregistered crusher industries are operating in the Chure range in Siraha. The office of the Cottage and Small Industries of Udayapur, with whom such industries are supposed to be registered, is unaware of their existence.

SIRAHA, Feb 3: After a brief halt, Sunny Crusher Industry, which operates on the eastern bank of the Gagan River in Gol Bazaar Municipality, is back in action. According to the Office of Small and Cottage Industries (OSCI), Lahan, this firm has not renewed its permit which expired in Fiscal Year 2013/14.

MUGU, Sept 9: Manmohan Khadka of Rara Municipality-3 speaks louder these days. Other members of his family do the same. If they do not do so, they cannot hear each other, according to Khadka. “The crusher plants are operated all the time. When they make noise, we cannot hear anything except the noise,” he lamented.

BUTWAL, July 31: Local Development Officer (LDO) of Nawalparasi district, Yuvaraj Kattel has been transferred within five months of joining the office. He was becoming popular among the public for his strict action against land and mining mafia. His predecessor, LDO Jivlal Bhushal had been transferred within 35 days of assuming his office. It is said that a strong mafia-politicians connection is behind such early transfers.

NAWALPARASI, July 26: Local Development Officer Yuwaraj Kattel of Nawalparasi district, who took initiatives to stop illegal excavations, has been transferred upon direct instruction from Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba, sources said.

KHOTANG, July 23: Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality in the district has decided to remove a crusher industry running illegally in the municipality.

Crusher plants polluting Seti River

POKHARA, April 16 : Seti River is named Seti (white) due to the apparent purity of its water. However, because of the residues and chemical drained into it by haphazardly operated crusher plants along its bank has changed its color remarkably. The water is further made filthy by the people living alongside its bank. At its source, the base of the Machhapuchre Mountain, its water is fresh and clean. But its water quality is degraded as it travels from Pokhara to Tanahu.

MAHENDRANAGAR, Jan 7: Agitating locals of Bhujela, Kanchanpur have appealed to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to halt the operation of a crusher plant on the bank of the Mahakali River.
