The Israel-Palestine conflict has now extended into its fifth week, and as we witness these unfolding events it becomes strikingly evident that the Euro-American alliance posits itself as the lords of the world, striving to safeguard "civilization" against "barbarism."

KATHMANDU, June 1: A 20-year master plan aiming to promote the civilization of the Bagmati river system and its tributaries is likely by April next year.

With the aim to save the holy Bishnumati River — an integral source of civilization, culture and environment in the Kathmandu Valley — from dying out, a Bishnumati River cleaning campaign was launched on Wednesday.

Globalization and modern lifestyle is posing a threat to family system in all parts of the world. Crumbling traditional family system has added further burdens to the mothers though family and motherhood are the foundations that establish culture and civilization.

Museums are repositories of history and heritage and remain preserved in the form of writing, picture, objects and audio-visuals for the present as well as future generations. They give the holistic picture of status of industry, pattern of settlement and agriculture, art and artistry of temples, churches, monasteries and mosques, festivities, birth and death rituals, pattern of house construction, dress making and costumes so on and so forth. In the recent times, practice of taking writings, arts and artifacts, objects and ornaments, costumes and audio visual materials of historical and cultural importance to display in different places is gaining ground.

Dear Kathmandu, people’s perceptions toward you have been gradually changing with the changes in the political system of Nepal. The capital of Nepal only is not enough to describe your greatness. People attempt to define your existence according to their experience on your lap. The loud voices of happiness and anguish, content and discontent, respect and hatred, inspiration and frustration these days are not uncommon in Kathmandu. And, yes, you’re being both blessed and cursed for everything.

Life is a series of choices and modern civilization has transformed us so much that we need to rethink some of our default social choices that have existed for centuries. No social institution is as celebrated and imposed in Nepal as marriage. It’s so integral to our social system that most people seek for stable future through marriage and grown-ups who aren’t married till certain age are often looked down as outcasts. Every human being craves to achieve love and personal fulfilment through marriage.
