ILAM, Jan 7: The price of cardamom has increased by threefold this season, bringing happiness to the farmers. Cardamom is now being sold at the highest price in the past four years.

ILAM, Dec 22: The production of cardamom has increased in Ilam district. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Ilam, cardamom production has increased despite a decrease in cardamom cultivated land.

LAMJUNG, Nov 26: Farmers in Lamjung, emerging as a cardamom cultivation hub, have garnered Rs 240 million from the sale of cardamom this year, as reported by the implementation unit of the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project, Lamjung. The revenue stems from the sale of 251 metric tons of cardamom seeds in the district during the fiscal year 2023/24.

LAMJUNG, Feb 26: Farmers of Lamjung have earned Rs 200 million from the sale of cardamom this year. A total of 380 metric tons of cardamom was sold in the district in the year, according to the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project Implementation Unit, Lamjung.

Farmers worried as cardamom prices fall

KHOTANG, Nov 7 : Farmers of Khotang have been keeping cardamom stored in their houses since the last three years as they are not getting suitable price in the market. Though the production is increasing every year the market price of cardamom is going down, so farmers have chosen to store their product waiting for price to increase.  Sangram Rai from Sakela Rural Municipality of Khotang has been storing cardamom since the past three years. “All the produced cardamom has been stored as the price of cardamom declined awfully,” said Sangram Rai, owner of Dandakharka Multipurpose Agricultural Farm. “We did not sell our last year’s product waiting for the price to increase.”

TEHRATHUM, Oct 25: Cardamom farmers in the district are upset with the slump in the price of cardamom, the highest fall in cardamom prices in a decade.

KAVRE, June 11: Some years back, locals of Rayale Lamidada, Panauti-1, in Kavrepalanchok district had no choice but to visit nearby bazaar just to buy vegetables. Recalling those days, Upendra Prasad Timilsina, a local farmer said, “In those days vegetables were not grown here and when I told villagers that we can avoid visits to bazaars to buy vegetables if we start growing on our own, they mocked my idea. They did not believe that we could grow vegetables.”

GORKHA, June 11: This year, cardamom farmers of Gorkha district have stored the cash crop at their homes as they did not get the 'right' price for it. It is estimated that almost 15 tons of cardamom has been stored in the district in this way.

PANCHTHAR, Jan 31: Commercial farming of cardamom and ginger has been started in Panchthar district under Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project.

MELAMCHI, Jan 28: The Thangpalkot VDC located in the alpine region of the Sindhupalchowk district on Friday was declared the Cardamom Pocket Area.

ILAM, Oct 31: Sudden slump in the price of cardamom has become a matter of concern for the farmers here. Cardamom is the second major cash crop after ginger in Ilam district.

Father of cardamom farming dies

KHOTANG, Oct 24: Pioneer of modern farming in Khotang district, Parkhan Bahadur Rai, died on Saturday. He was 91. Popularly known as 'father of cardamom farming,' Rai is also remembered for professional farming of pea, tea, flowers and fish among others in the hills of Khotang. While mourning his death, locals stated that they lost the guardian of agriculture of the region.

Black cardamom price falling continuously

PANCTHAR, Sept 22: Price of black cardamom has been falling continuously in recent months due to low demand.

KATHAMNDU, July 2: Export of woolen carpet, Ready Made Garment (RMG) and cardamom improved in the first 11 months of Fiscal Year 2015/16, while export of iron and steel suffered in the same period compared to figures of the same period of the past fiscal year.
