Nearly two years after the country started exercising federal system with three tiers of government, more than half of total seven provinces are yet to settle names and fix provincial capitals.

DANG, May 7: As most suggestions collected by the special committee formed to recommend the name of the capital of Province 5 are for naming Dang as the capital, the provincial assembly is in a fix whether to respect the majority.

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: After the government six days ago declared several towns as capitals of the provinces, land prices in those capitals have skyrocketed within a short period of time. Surkhet, Dhangadhi and Janakpur among other towns have seen up to four-fold rise in the prices of land.

KATHMANDU, Jan 18: After its efforts to decide the temporary provincial capitals and recommend the governors in consultation with the left alliance failed, the government on Wednesday went ahead with the decisions on its own.

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: After the failure to forge consensus with political parties outside the government, the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has decided to nominate provincial governors and temporary provincial headquarters in consultation with its coalition partners.
