KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Friday’s cabinet decision to begin negotiations to award Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Project to a Chinese company has received criticism from different quarters including the opposition party.

GORKHA, May 9: The Driver, identified as Santosh Sapkota, 27, of Belkotgadi municipality-5 was killed when a tipper(Ba 4 Kha 9506) plunged some 200 meters from the road to Budhigandaki river at Gandaki rural municipality, Benighat-8, Chiurigaunda of Gorkha last night.
KATHMANDU, May 9: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun has said that the government will build the 1200 MW Budhigandaki Hydropower Project on its own and the tender process for the project will begin from next fiscal year. Budhigandaki is currently the only ready-to-implement reservoir-based hydropower project. The project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) and tender documents are ready, according to officials.
GORKHA, May 3: The compensation distribution to the locals of affected area under the Budhigandaki National Pride Project has been at a snail’s pace. The project has deposited the compensation in respective bank accounts four months after the locals of affected area filed applications.

But the decision, according to government officials, to award the reservoir project to China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) has a rider - CGGC will have to come up with a technically and financially viable proposal within a year.
