KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The two major border crossings closed by China have been reopened. China has opened the border points since Thursday after ethical questions were raised about the closure of the border crossings with Chinese Communist Party (CPC) leader and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), Li Zhanshu, who visited Nepal recently. It is said that the checkpoints were opened only to release goods stopped in transit.

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: After China unilaterally closed two major trade points between the two countries citing the cause of COVID-19, about 500 containers that were headed for Nepal have been stopped on the Chinese side of the border. The Himalayan Cross-Border Chamber of Commerce said that when the Chinese side closed the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border crossings without giving prior information, the cargo containers that were coming to Nepal were stuck on their way in China.

The Nepali market is dominated by Chinese goods. Businessmen estimate that Chinese goods may become more expensive in the Nepali market after various materials including clothes brought in for the festival are stopped at the border crossings.
