KATHMANDU, June 15: Nepal America Film Festival 2021 that has been organized at Maryland State of the United States of America is scheduled to kick-off virtually on June 17.

Stories of race, racism and colonialism in the U.S. swept the Pulitzer Prizes for the arts, from Louise Erdrich’s novel “The Night Watchman” to a Malcolm X biography co-written by the late Les Payne to Katori Hall’s play “The Hot Wing King.”

The Pulitzer Prizes in journalism and the arts will be announced Friday, recognizing the best work in a year in which people isolated themselves because of a deadly pandemic and took to the streets over racial injustice.

With a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, three major literary arts nonprofits have teamed to administer $3.5 million for organizations struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

Working at the intersection of arts and research, Bharat Giri finds his ideas no far from science. A researcher in spiritual science, his work is keenly crafted in intensive studies on subjects that are interlinked with human mind, behavior and existence. His early interest in contrastingly different subjects started as a Bsc. Student and a meditation practitioner two decades ago. Having graduated in culture in 2012, he recently earned a degree in Buddhism studies from Tribhuvan University in 2018. He successfully participated in International Scientific Conference held in Kathmandu in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Tassel Kingdom caters to this very need of customized designs. They take in personal requests for customizing earrings and also produce ones that are mostly in demand. An undertaking of longtime friends Stela Shakya, Krisha Bajracharya, and Sulakchhana Shakya, Tassel Kingdom is a small-scale initiative of the trio. They began in their own circle, gifting friends and families a few of their own creations. Enthused by the reactions, they opened an account on Instagram to officially sell their products. The reception and the support that poured in was nothing short of fantastic.

Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Peter Budd launched the book ‘Silence No Longer: Artivism of Ashmina’ in an event organized at Hotel Shanker, Lazimpat on Tuesday. The book was published with the support from the Australian Embassy which highlights the contribution of artist Ashmina Ranjit to linking arts and activism in Nepal.

Amidst an event held at Nepal Art Council, Baber Mahal on Sunday, three graduates were awarded 'Prashant Talent Scholarship'.  Prashant Memorial Society has been granting scholarships to fine arts graduates since 2003.

Bimal Bolakhe, an artist from Rautahat, came to Kathmandu at the age of 18. Bolakhe lost his father when he was six years old and had worked as a houseboy trading work for food and education. He couldn’t pursue his passion then but he thought coming to Kathmandu would change things. He somehow got himself enrolled in Srijana Fine Arts College. Now, in his free time, he loves reading historical books, mainly Roman and Greek and hangs around Basantapur and Patan Durbar Square doing different types of art. He spoke to The Week’s Joshna Karki about what art means to him.
