A Promising Sign of Recovery

The recent increase in foreign tourist arrivals to Nepal is a promising sign for the country's tourism industry, which has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The arrival of over 73,000 tourists in February 2023, compared to just over 9,000 in the same month the previous year, shows that the country’s ailing tourism industry is gradually on the path of recovery.

Tourist arrivals up 25% in January

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Nepal welcomed 91,793 foreign tourists in the first month of 2019 – a growth of 25 percent compared to foreign tourist footfalls in January last year.

POKHARA, July 7: The Gandaki provincial government has said that it would start preparation for maintaining database of foreign tourists visiting Pokhara city. Local authorities have been saying that around 40 percent of total tourists visiting Nepal travel to Pokhara. But this is just a conservative estimate. There is no mechanism so far to calculate number of tourists visiting Pokhara.

Tourist arrivals grew in May

KATHMANDU, June 21: Tourist arrivals in May this year have increased by 9.6 percent compared to the figures of May 2017. According to the Department of Immigration, a total of 68,825 international tourists visited Nepal in May 2018.

Tourist arrivals up by 30 percent

KATHMANDU, Nov 9: Tourist footfall to Nepal surged by 29.67 percent over the first 10 months of 2017 compared to figures of the same period of 2016.

SOLUKHUMBU, Oct 15: With an increase in the number of tourists visiting Solukhumbu, number of flights operating at Khumbu Airport has increased. There are more than 100 flights operating from the airport every day.
