World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise awareness and to support action to protect and preserve our environment. With the decision of the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, the first World Environment Day was organized in 1974 with the theme: "Only One Earth". The theme for this year is "Biodiversity", the resources that support life on earth. Colombia will host the World Environment Day in partnership with Germany. The World Environment Day engages people, communities, private sector and governments around the world to take action on critical environmental challenges facing the planet.

KATHMANDU, June 11: A literary symposium was held in London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, recently. The fourth environment literary symposium organized at the joint initiations of 14 Nepali literary organisations based in the UK on the occasion of World Environment Day was inaugurated by Nepal's Ambassador for the UK and litterateur Dr Durga Bahadur Subedi.

The children from Bansighat Slum Area expressed their imagination and sent a message on how to save the earth and protect the environment they live in from air pollution and other environmental problems on Wednesday. And the occasion was ‘World Environment Day’.

KATHMANDU, June 6: The residents of Gokarneshwar Municipality ward-3, Baluwa planted fruit saplings at Suntakhan village on Wednesday to mark the World Environment Day.

June 5: On the day of World Environment Day, 2019  which has air pollution as its theme, David Boyd, the UN’s Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment, called on states to take urgent action to improve air quality in order to fulfill their human rights obligations.
