KATHMANDU, Mar 1: The government has announced to cancel all promotional activities related to the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign in foreign countries. The decision comes in the wake of the rapid spread of COVID-19 across the global and the risk of transmission through travelers.
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli does not like when pictures of tuins are published in the newspapers. ‘They do not get to see one these days and therefore use the old ones,’ he reportedly said recently. The Prime Minister boasts that his government has accomplished so much in terms of creating basic minimum structures such as bridges and roads.
Visit Nepal 2020 has already started and the government of Nepal is expecting two million tourists this year. In order to attract two million tourists, government is spending over six billion rupees for advertisement and promotion in international media. Tourism is a promising growth sector that can provide inclusive and sustainable growth across Nepal. Though Nepali tourism has been making steady progress in the last three years, the number set by the stakeholders seems ambitious with infrastructure being a major constraining factor. However, there is no option but to do our best to make Visit Nepal 2020 a grand success.
Visit Nepal 2020 mega campaign kicked off with fanfare in December last year. It ended as a one-time ritual, just as unattended plantation of vegetation at Tinkune and blacktopping a few kilometers of already passable roads in rapidity, spending millions of rupees like water to impress Chinese President Xi Jinping during his October visit to Kathmandu last year.

PARIS, Jan 6: Nepali Embassy in Paris in partnership with the Non-resident Nepali Association France chapter organized a program at the world famous Eiffel Tower in France to mark the beginning of Visit Nepal Year 2020.
