We were expecting two million tourists to visit Nepal this year but it looks like we might not reach the target due to the outbreak of coronavirus in China and various other countries. Even before the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign was officially launched, tourism entrepreneurs had serious doubts about attracting two million tourists due to inadequate tourism infrastructure in our country.

The government of Nepal has declared 2020 as the Visit Nepal Year (VNY). The government hopes that two million tourists will come to the country and each will spend above $75 a day. Undoubtedly, our economy needs a boost and what better than backing the tourism industry to catapult our growth story to the next level?  Meanwhile, there has been criticism on the role of the government, especially, the pace with which things should have moved forward. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that it is “Visit Nepal Year” and not “Visit Nepal Government Year”. Therefore, we the people of Nepal have a solemn duty to contribute to making VNY successful.

SINDHULI, Jan 4: Targeting Visit Nepal Year (VNY), Chetana Village Resort has come into operation at Khaniya Kharka in the district. Operator of the resort, Yadav Humagain said the total investment for the resort stood at Rs 120 million.

The Visit Nepal 2020 campaign has officially begun. Amid the grand celebration in Kathmandu and several places of seven provinces, the program was inaugurated on Wednesday with great fanfare and rejoicing. There have been commitments from all sides to make VNY 2020 a grand success.

In not less than 25 days from today, Visit Nepal 2020 will officially start. The VNY 2020 has been one of the most important flagship programs of the government of K P Sharma Oli.  It indeed is a landmark event for Nepal to tap into our immense tourism potentials to contribute to nation’s economy and development. The last time Nepal held such an event was in 1998.  For ten years, from 1996 to 2006, Nepal could not attract more tourists due to armed insurgency.
