POKHARA, Dec 3: Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality of Kaski has collected a total entry fee of Rs 1.2 million from trekkers visiting Mardi, Khumain and Korchang within a month. The rural municipality started collecting entry fees from locals and foreigners from November 3.

KATHMANDU, March 21: Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has decided to suspend issuance of Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) cards for the trekkers for various trekking areas in Nepal putting trekking expeditions to a halt.

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: The government suspended the search for the missing trekkers in the Annapurna region on Thursday citing renewed snowfall and difficulties in digging through the hardened avalanche debris. Officials said the search will resume possibly in March. The rescuers have already identified a gorge where the trekkers might be buried.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The government has suspended search and rescue operation for four South Korean trekkers and three Nepali guides who have gone missing following an avalanche in Annapurna region since Monday.

Trekking Trails on the rise

POKHARA, Dec 5: Around 70 percent of tourists visiting Nepal travel through different trekking trails in the country. Nepal is one of the major destinations for trekking. During the favorable season trekking trails of the country are jam-packed. September to November is considered as the best season for trekking. In the past few years, domestic tourists have also started to trek and the numbers of trekkers are on the rise.

Trekking agencies’ association warns of protests

KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has protested the accommodation levy taken from trekkers in Khumbu region of Solukhumbu district.

MUSTANG, May 8: The local administration decided to close entry to the general public to the Muktinath temple premises from 4:00 pm on May 11 to 12:00 noon May 12, in view of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the temple.

Number of group trekkers increasing

POKHARA, June 22: Until two years ago, Machhapuchhre Model Trek in Kaski district was a popular route for trekkers looking for camping trek. But the route, which offers the closest possible view of Mt Machhapuchhre, now wears a deserted look, as only a few trekkers walk this route. This is because the route does not have even basic infrastructure.

GORKHA, Sept 22: A landslide in Kerauja area in northern Gorkha on Thursday morning killed five people including two Spanish tourists and severely injured as many. Nepalis who lost lives in the incident are Dorje Lama, 35, Chhiri Shrepa, 30 and Ranjana Basnet, 25. Lama and Sherpa were trekking guides while Basnet was a staff at Community Action Nepal (CAN), a tourism-related organization.  Five people who were severely injured and four others who received minor injuries are being treated at Vayodha Hospital of Kathmandu.
