This year’s UN World Toilet Day has reminded the issues of sanitation with the theme “Valuing Toilets”. Life without a toilet is dirty, dangerous, and undignified. Toilets define public health. It also drives improvements in gender equality, education, economics, and the environment. There will be no sustainable future without toilets.

Recently, a physician affiliated with one of the premier private hospitals in Kathmandu wrote about present day working environment in health sector in a Nepali daily. While he raised some valid issues, including that of mistreatment of service providers, medical college mafia, financial extortions, and improper licensing of facilities and manpower, he argued these matters largely portray physicians as victimized professionals, and likened their predicament to byathaa (an affliction) that they have to endure on a daily basis.

NEPALGUNJ, Dec 13: There are 24 houses in a row at Ghasiyaran Tole of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City. The settlement has got the name as most of people have the occupation of cutting grass and selling it for livelihood which is their traditional occupation. ‘Ghas’ means grass and’ Ghasiyaran’ refers to a person who cuts, collects and sells grass.

KMC prepares designs for public toilet

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: Kathmandu Metropolitan City, which had been planning for public toilet, has just prepared design for it. The construction of public toilet will begin from the current fiscal year, it informed.
