KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Due to negligence in the management of the Chakuncha Khahare Khola (seasonal stream) which was excavated by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to widen up the river to its natural banks, a flood occurred in the Milan Chowk and Sattalle areas of Kapan.

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: A father and his son have gone missing after they were swept away by a river in Dolakha today. Those who have gone missing are Nimphunjo Sherpa and his son from Bigu village. They had gone to a forest near the village to collect niguro (fiddlehead fern eaten as vegetables) and were swept away while crossing the river, said Deepak Khadka, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office.

KATHMANDU, May 8: The Patan High Court has ruled that Tukucha, which has been buried underground in the Kamaladi and Hattisar areas of Kathmandu, is a river not a sewer. A Joint Bench of Judges, Mahesh Sharma Paudyal and Rajya Laxmi Bajracharya, also said that the state cannot interfere as the buildings and other structures developed over the Tukucha River are private properties.

KAPILVASTU, August 3: The body of a man who was swept away while crossing the Koili River in Banganga Municipality of Kapilvastu has been found.

RAJBIRAJ, Aug 28: The flood-fed Saptakoshi River has inundated around 500 households in Saptari district.

RAUTAHAT, Aug 27: Locals have accused Pappu Construction for Saturday’s boat capsize in Lalbakaiya River of Rautahat. At least two people were killed and three are missing.  Locals said the contractor’s failure to complete the construction of a bridge over the Lalbakaiya River on time forced people to use boat to cross the river so the contractor was also responsible for the accident.

KHOTANG, May 13: Police have recovered the body of Suman Shrestha, 12, one of the three children, who was swept by the Sun Koshi River on May 5.  Shrestha’s body was retrieved four kilometers away after it was washed ashore. The three children were swept by the river as they swam while herding goats.
