PHUNGLING (TAPLEJUNG), Aug 28: An international marathon competition is to be organized to raise public awareness for the conservation of the endangered Red Panda.

MANGALBARE, Jan 2: An endangered animal, red panda, has been found dead. The female red panda was found dead at Jaubari of Snadakpur rural municipality-5 in Ilam district.

MYAGDI, Oct 5: The red panda, a rare and globally admired wild animal, has recently been spotted in the forested Himalayan region of West Myagdi. The discovery was captured in video by a young adventurer, Subas Thapa, while he was exploring the Jaljala forest in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-2, Lulang, Myagdi.

PHUNGLING, Sept 29: For the preservation of Red Panda, an endangered animal enlisted by the IUCN, the dogs and cats are sterilized and vaccinated against rabies in Taplejung district.

JUMLA, July 1: Local residents of Jumla have been actively engaged in the conservation efforts for the endangered red panda over the past few years. The local communities in three rural villages of Jumla have taken the initiative to safeguard these endangered species.

PHUNGLING, Sept 23: As part of the ongoing efforts to conserve Red Panda, which is enlisted in the endangered category of the IUCN, the dogs in the districts are sterilized, vaccinated against rabies and are given vitamin citing that the Red Panda have remained insecure from the dog bite.

In Nepal, the red panda is listed as a nationally-protected species under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1973 AD. There are around 1,000 red pandas in Nepal according to the National Red Panda Census of 2016, distributed both inside and outside protected areas.

PHUNGLING, Jan 31: Information on Red Panda is now being taught in schools with the objective of developing awareness to protect the endangered animal. The Red Panda Network, working to preserve Red Panda, has developed text books on environment conservation including Red Panda to be taught in the schools.

TAPLEJUNG, Dec 30: The red pandas, already an endangered species, have faced new threat after its grazing land and habitat turned into ashes due to the fire that broke out in and around the forest area of Pathivara, posing a serious threat to the existence of the endangered mammals.

Illam, Dec 28: Sandakpur Rural Municipality has signed a contract of 7.8 million rupees to protect and conserve Red Panda. The wildlife spans an area of 200 ropanis of land at Maipatal of Sulubung in Sandakpur.

PANCHTHAR, June 6: Ten red pandas in the jungles of Sandakpur area of Ilam district have been fitted with radio collars. The collaring attached to six female and four male red pandas is expected to supply the authorities even the minute information on the activities of these shy and rare creatures.

JUMLA, July 28: In view of the rising cases of poaching of red panda, locals of Sija Municipality have formed a 'Forest Guardian' committee for the conservation of the shy and endangered animal.

JUMLA, Feb 14:  With increased poaching activities and rampant destruction of habitat, Jumla district is finding it challenging to conserve the endangered red pandas.Stakeholders, in a conservation program organized on Thursday, expressed deep concern over the failure to protect red pandas even in the conservation areas.“The government should have efficient policies for protecting red pandas,” said civil society leader Raj Bahadur Mahat.

Conserving red panda, an endangered species, is becoming a challenge in Jumla amid increasing habitat loss and poaching. In addition, forest fires and human encroachment and attacks for domesticated dogs are also threatening its existence. There are around 1,000 individuals in the country.
