The twenty-first century has borne witness to highly pathogenic and easily transmissible zoonotic virus outbreaks, including the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Ebola virus, Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and Nipah virus (NiV).

KATHMANDU, Sept 14: Experts have warned that Nepal is also at a high risk of the Nipah virus infection. According to Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, coordinator of Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital’s Research Branch, a species of the bat that spreads the Nipah virus is found in Nepal.

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has urged people across the country to remain vigilant against Nipah virus infection. The ministry has urged people to be vigilant as this type of virus can be spread in Nepal as well.
