BARA, Dec 16: Vehicular movement along the East-West highway in Nijgadh was obstructed on Saturday after a youth was killed in police firing in Simraungadh municipality of Bara.

KATHMANDU, May 30: While the pandemic continues to impact international airport projects under construction, the government is planning on bringing them into operation in the next fiscal year.

The scare created by a coffee spill in the cockpit happens to be the interesting story for this week. Two A350s experienced uncommanded in-flight shutdown of one of the engines after spillage on the centre pedestal that housed “start and control” engine functions. Happening within three months, the resulting shutdown came after some 15 minutes for Delta Airlines (US/Jan, 2020) and an hour for Asiana (SKorea / Nov, 2019). Both cases were investigated by Airbus, following which European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved the temporary revision in the manual making cockpit a “liquid prohibited zone”. The drastic step was necessary as the spill could have also affected the other running engine.

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: A parliamentary panel formed to study a proposed new international airport in the country has concluded that Nijgadh is the best site for the project.

Nijgadh International airport has come to limelight because of increasing air traffic congestion at Tribhuvan International airport, the only International airport of Nepal. Nijgadh has been identified as a feasible airport to reduce the pressure and working load of TIA.

KATHMANDU, Sept 15: Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has said that there was no alternative to building the Second International Airport (SIA) at Nijgadh, as proposed by the government, despite scorn from the environmental activists that building the airport will destroy trees.

Why we need alternative and additional international airports is obvious. Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the only international airport in the country, has become too crowded, too congested and is too small to contain increasing air traffic.

KATHMANDU, July 31: The Ministry of Forest and Environment had invited feedback and opinions for a week from April 27 on the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) prepared for building the second international airport but very few feedback and comments were received.

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Expediting the Nijgadh International Airport project and marking the current fiscal year as Visit Pashupati Year to attract more tourists in Kathmandu are among the key tasks that Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jitendra Narayan Dev plans to execute in the next two months.
