KATHMANDU, April 12: As locally produced honey struggles to find a market, farmers are facing dire circumstances, with some even contemplating leaving the honey harvesting industry altogether. The disappointment stems from Indian honey dominating the Nepali market, leaving indigenous honey unsold.

For sustainable agriculture in terms of yield, pest management, and fertility of the soil, biodynamic agriculture with proper pest management techniques might be a possible option for Nepali farmers or growers.

BANKE, Dec 8: “There is no loss in the occupation of agriculture. It may not give you big money, but there is no loss," is what Lal Bahadur Khatri, a farmer based in Khajura in Banke, thinks.

Surkhet farmer awarded

KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Dipendra Karki of Surkhet has bagged ‘Krishi Tara Award’. The award provided jointly by the Embassy of Israel and Avsar foundation – an NGO initiated by Khetan Family – aims at honoring deserving Nepali farmers or agri-entrepreneurs contributing in agriculture sector through use of innovations, technologies and skills learnt in Israel under ‘Learn and Earn Program’. The award carrying a purse of Rs 500,000 and a certificate was handed over to Karki amid a ceremony held on Thursday.

Promoting family forestry

Family forests have played a lead role in economic transformation of Nepali farmers for decades. But slowly, this is getting replaced by various other forms of income generation and livelihood options. Majority of Nepali youths are in foreign land and others have migrated to city areas in search of opportunities and services.
