KATHMANDU, Sept 25: The upper house of parliament has amended the Muluki codes, provisioning an expert committee that will establish medical negligence prior to the arrest of any doctor on a complaint of negligence or malicious intent.

KATHMANDU, Sep 3: Rukumaya Gharti Magar of Nawalparasi had reached the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on Sunday morning as prescribed by the doctors. A kidney patient, Gharti Magar, approached the hospital administration early in the morning to get admission, but in a vain.

KATHMANDU, Sept 2: When a full court meeting was underway at the Supreme Court on December 3, 2008, the justices opened a letter dispatched from the Ministry of Law mentioning  two separate taskforces—one headed by Justice Khil Raj Regmi and the other by Justice Kalyan Shrestha --for revising the country’s civil and criminal codes respectively.

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The president of the main opposition Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged the government to initiate necessary processes to amend the recently implemented new Muluki codes and remove some of its provisions, especially those that undermine press freedom and infringe upon the integrity and professionalism of medical professionals.

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Amid criticism from various quarters that the newly enacted Muluki Codes contain regressive provisions against press freedom, the government has come up with yet another piece of  legislation with stricter provisions on  collection and publication of information on   individuals, including public office bearers.
