KATHMANDU, Dec 7: The All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary ANNISU (R ) staged protests at Maitighar on Wednesday against the Indian encroachment upon the Mahakali River in Darchula district. The protests came in the wake of India starting building embankments without coordination with Nepal, pushing the river toward Nepal.

Dhangadi/Darchula, Dec 7: India has stopped the unilateral construction of an embankment along the Mahakali River in Darchula district. Earlier, India had started building the embankment without any coordination with Nepal, in violation of international law. Tension arose after the locals protested against the construction of the embankment by India and now the Indian side has stopped the construction of the embankment.

DHANGADI, DARCHULA, Dec 7: Besides encroaching upon considerable areas in the Nepali territories of Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh, the Indian side has been accused of causing trouble to the people not only in the encroached land but also to those living in the border areas of Darchula district.

DARCHULA, Sept 19: The construction of a motorable concrete bridge over the Mahakali River in Darchula district has begun. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Dilendra Prasad Badu and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, India, Pushkar Singh Dhami jointly laid the foundation stone for the project amid a function here today.

DHANGADI/BAITADI/DARCHULA: Sachin Budhathoki, 18, went missing after falling into the Mahakali River at Gothal Ghat in Dumling on Wednesday while trying to cross the river via a Tuin (improvised cable crossing). A search for him is on. Budhathoki has gone missing after the cable crossing snapped and he fell into the river on Wednesday while he was returning to Nepal from India with some belongings.

KANCHANPUR, Oct 19: The Mahakali River in Sudurpaschim Province has recorded the highest water level in eight years. The water flow in the River bordering Nepal and India was measured to be at 547,224 cusec on Tuesday noon.

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The probe committee formed to find out truth behind the incident of disappearance of Jayasingh Dhami– who went missing in the Mahakali River while crossing it via a tuin or wire crossing in Darchula– has concluded that the incident took place in the presence of the Indian Border Security Force (SSB).

KATHMANDU, July 15: Samjhana Sunar, a four-year-old girl of Surkheti, Dodhara Chadani Municipality-4, drowned in the Mahakali River on Wednesday evening.

A single bench of justice Hari Krishna Karki refused to issue interim order in response to a writ petition filed demanding the evacuation of Nepali nationals being stranded in the border entry points as a result of the lockdown imposed by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19.

KANCHANPUR, Aug 6: Water flow in the Mahakali River is on the rise following the incessant rainfall since Monday night.

DARCHULA, May 22: Residents of Darchula villages bordering Mahakali River continue to use tyre tubes to cross the river even though a suspension bridge over the river was completed six months ago. The suspension bridge that connects Nepal and India and is situated in Lekam Rural Municipality – 3 of the district is yet to come into operation.
