KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Maghe Sankranti or Makar Sankranti is being celebrated throughout the country today. It is observed by taking holy dips in rivers and ponds, worshiping at various temples and savoring delicacies like ghee, yam, khichadi and sweets like Chaku and sweets made of sesame and molasses.

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: Tokha, a town in Kathmandu famed for producing Chaku, a special cultural cuisine, is going to see Chaku Day and Grand Cultural Day and Felicitation programme taking place simultaneously.

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: As the Maghe Sankranti festival approaches, the traders in Tokha, the northern region of Kathmandu, are busy making Chaku (a sweet made from hardened molasses). The molasses is cooked down until it is a solid form, and then pulled on a hook in a manner similar to making taffy and then cut into small rolls.

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The Kumal community has prepared to mark the Maghe Sankranti festival with much fanfare this year. The Kumal community observes the Maghe Sankranti as its greatest festival.
