KATHMANDU, March 19: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has directed the district administration offices to collect the complaints and petitions of loan-shark victims and address their grievances immediately. For that, the ministry has instructed the  CDO offices to establish a desk under the leadership of an officer-level employee.

The Shanti Batika was established in the memory of Ganesh Man Singh, one of the leaders of the movement for political change, the martyrs, the injured and one of the leaders of the political change of 2046 BS. That peaceful place suddenly became turbulent on Monday. The peace there was disturbed. There was a clash between police and the loan shark victims with charging batons and stone pelting. The police sprayed water cannons.

The recent incident of police using excessive force on loan shark victims who conducted a peaceful sit-in at Shanti Batika in Kathmandu is highly concerning. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has requested the government to respect and protect the rights of citizens to gather peacefully and express their opinion. As responsible citizens, we must urge the government to exercise restraint, meet the genuine demands of the loan shark victims and resolve the issue through meaningful dialogue.
