KATHMANDU, Feb12: A woman from Jhapa who reached Kuwait for foreign employment returned within four months. An agent close to her friend facilitated her journey to Kuwait, promising lucrative employment opportunities at a reputable company.
BENI (Myagdi), Dec 7: Hirakumari Chokhal, a resident of Beni municipality-9, Ghalan Kaulegaunda, has been rescued alive in Kuwait. She had been suffering from extreme forms of labor exploitation in the course of her employment.
In a deeply distressing and harrowing episode, around 1,000 Nepali youths are currently stranded in Kuwait, facing abject conditions and a future marred by uncertainty. These young souls embarked on a journey to earn a livelihood and support their families back home, but instead, they find themselves trapped in a web of deceit, unemployment, and unpaid wages.

KATHMANDU, July 28: As many as 83 Nepali youths who traveled to Kuwait on November 3, 2022, in search of foreign employment have found themselves in dire straits. Their passports were seized by their employers upon arrival, leaving them trapped and unable to return home or work in the foreign land. Adding to their misery, these workers have not received any salary for the past six months.
The Government of Nepal is not doing enough to support its migrant workers. Multiple confusions loom around the diaspora, hoping the Nepal government to sort them out. The precarious example of Kuwait paints Nepal’s despondent approach of handling foreign employment amidst the COVID-19 crisis.
