KATHMANDU, Oct 25: People continue to visit the homes of their senior relatives to receive the Dashain tika, jamara and blessings from them even on the second day of the Bada Dashain festival today.

KATHMANDU, Sept 26: The first day of "Navratri" is being marked today by preparing for Jamara (barley shoots) by sowing maize and barley seeds in a jar filled with soil and cow dung for germination. Similarly, on the occasion of Ghatasthapana, the first day of the festival, jamara was placed in Hanuman Dhoka’s Dashain Ghar by holding a special ceremony on Monday.

Coming home for Dashain and Tihar is always equal parts amazing and awful. Amazing because obviously I get to meet my grandparents and dad and mom and also catch up with my cousins who keep meeting without me throughout the year. Not to mention all the glorious home-cooked delicacies I get to enjoy, and that too without actually having to chop or cook anything myself.

SARLAHI, Oct 16: Every year on Ghatasthapana, the first day of Dashain, Hindus across the country sow seven different types of grains in an earthen pot or leaf plates locally known as Tapari.
