On the special occasion of Intra Jatra (YenYaa Punhi), Pasa Puchah Guthi UK London (PPGUK London), the UK based Nepali association, organized the festival at Clarence Way Hall, London, UK.

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Kwaneya, the first day of the chariot procession of the Living Goddess Kumari and the most important day of Indra Jatra, one of the biggest festivals in the Kathmandu Valley has been observed at Basantapur Durbar Square on Friday.

The first day begins from Kumari Ghar, Basantapur and heads toward Chikanmugal, Jaisi Dewal, Lagan, Hyumat, Bhimsensthan, Maru and halts at Kumari Ghar. Lord Ganesh’s chariot is pulled first, followed by Lord Bhairab and then Kumari.

The solo exhibition of 11-year-old Shashwat Budhathoki was held at Premier International School, Khumaltar, on Tuesday. Altogether 20 photographs based on Indra Jatra were displayed at the exhibition.

An interaction program was organized by Newa: Patrakar Rastriya Daboo Kathmandu on Thursday to discuss the current situation of the ‘Das Avatar’ recital during Indra Jatra. The program had the presence of the member of provincial assembly -- Rajesh Shakya. Speaking in the event, Shakya pointed out the different obstacles that laid on the execution of Das Avatar.

The erection of Indra Dhoj -- a single-tree wooden pole – officially marks the beginning of Indra Jatra. It is one of the major festivities celebrated by the local Newars of Kathmandu. On the first day, locals parade through the Upaku route -- Kwahiti, Bhimsensthan, Maru, Damai Tol, Naradevi, Chhetrapati, and Thanhiti – in memory of the deceased family member. The bereaved families then light up butter lamps along the same route, later in the evening.

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: As many as 29 Guthis come together for the Kathmandu Valley's longest festival Indra Jatra today. There are various mythical stories related to the festival. One such popular story is about the King of Heaven, Indra who came down to earth to get a special flower parijat and Karkalo (taro) for his mother, who was fasting and worshiping Goddess Basundharadevi.

Das Avatar Exhibition and Promotion Society held a press meets on Friday at Maru, Kathmandu, to inform the withdrawal of the ‘Das Avatar Dance’ during the upcoming Indra Jatra festival.The society declared the lack of adequate budget, to manage the six artists and 50 crew members, as the major reason for removing the performance this year.
