KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Within a month of his election to the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Agni Prasad Sapkota has started ‘blocking’ opposition voice in parliament. On Sunday, Speaker Sapkota barred a leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) from speaking.

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to issue a stay order against newly-elected Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota carrying out the duties of his position.

It seems that the quota system is not going to go away any day soon as long as our old fogies rule our land from their couches. Our political parties claim to be democratic but its own netas are autocratic losers who favor byaparis and mundrey dons over loyal, hardworking cadres when it comes to distributing tickets to fight elections.

The perennial delay, indecision and what now seems like brinkmanship of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) over the selection of candidate for the post of speaker of House of Representatives is troubling for many reasons. It reeks of misogyny too. It is already more than three months since the post fell vacant after the resignation of Krishna Bahadur Mahara over the charge of rape attempt in October last year.  To keep the lower house of parliament headless for over three months in itself is against the parliamentary practice.

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: More than three months after then speaker of the House of Representatives  Krishna Bahadur Mahara resigned from the position,  the ruling Nepal Communist Party has sought the resignation of Deputy Speaker Shivamaya Tumbahangphe also.

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: An effort made by Prime Minister KP Oli and Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal to pick a new House speaker candidate from within the NCP failed as Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe insisted that she would resign from the post only if she is offered the post of speaker.
