KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai has urged Dalits to renounce Hinduism, describing it as the source of atrocities being committed against the so-called untouchables in the name of the caste system.

Superstitions make us do weird things. We stop abruptly on our paths if a cat crosses the road in front of us, we hesitate to walk underneath a ladder and take great pains to go around it, and we knock heads again if we accidently bump our head with someone. That’s not all. It seems each and every one of us has our own set of superstitions, or beliefs as we would like to call them. It might have no logic behind it but, in its own way, it makes you feel good and gives you strength and that’s what’s important.

KATHMANDU, Oct 28: According to Hindu mythology, when Lakshman, the younger brother of lord Rama suggested him to rule over the beautiful land of Lanka after defeating Ravan, the elder brother said that mother and motherland were greater than even heaven.

We must defend Kamal Thapa’s right to maintain his party’s position on Hindu state but we should reject his call for Nepal as Hindu state.
