Nepal was quick to follow the international trend of imposing restrictions to contain COVID-19 infection soon after reporting a few coronavirus cases. Starting with restrictions on international air-travel on March 22 to sealing land borders with India and announcing a nation-wide lockdown on March 24, Nepal’s strategy to prevent spread of the coronavirus and flattening the disease curve was well appreciated until collateral damages started becoming visible. The demerits of the decision easily exceeded its benefits to a point that many public health and other experts now state the lockdown was a mistake.

United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has time and again emphasized that women and girls are the most vulnerable at times of pandemic and they face the highest risk of suffering and devastating loss in times of such health crisis. Pregnant, expecting mothers and the ones who have recently undergone postpartum struggle to get access to basic health care during the COVID-19 pandemic as per the UN Population Fund (UNFPA). World's already overburdened health care system has started to leave behind this group of women who need regular health check-ups for their and their children’s wellbeing.

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Sierra Kathmandu, a restaurant situated at Uttardhoka, Lazimpat, is organizing a five-kilometer run in the Kathmandu Valley with the objective of raising awareness on health issues that fitness enthusiasts especially joggers and walkers are facing in the city due to the deadly increase in pollution as well as viral diseases that are originating from the consumption of unhealthy and unhygienic food. All the proceeds from the event will go to a charity supporting the victims of acid attacks.
