KATHMANDU, Oct 28: Gai Puja, Goru Puja or ox worship and Govardan Puja are being observed throughout the country today on the fourth day of the five-day-long Tihar festival celebrated mainly by the Hindus across the country.

KATHMANDU, Nov 7: As Thursday marks the fourth day of Tihar, the Newar community across the country will be celebrating Mha Puja (worship of the self). Every year, during Govardhan Puja, Newari people worship themselves so as to observe their New Year according to Nepal Sambat.

Tihar is at the doorstep. It is the second biggest Nepali festival after Dashain. Crow is worshipped on Kaag Tihar, the first of the five-day-long festival. Dogs get special treatment on the second day, called Kukur Tihar. On the third day (Gai Tihar), people show their appreciation to cow by garlanding and feeding them. In the evening, Laxmi, the goddess of wealth, is worshiped by lighting oil lamps (Diyo).
