The Himalayas are warming at 0.3-0.7°C faster than the global average due to a situation called ‘Elevation Dependent Warming’. At the current course, the mountains will lose two-thirds of permanent ice. A major portion of the Himalayas lies in Nepal which faces extreme difficulties from the effects of global warming.

BRUSSELS, Dec 11: European Union leaders reached a hard-fought deal Friday to cut the bloc’s net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by the end of the decade compared with 1990 levels, avoiding a hugely embarrassing deadlock ahead of a U.N. climate meeting this weekend.

Formal doesn’t have to be boring

There aren’t many places in Kathmandu that sell or tailor formal wear for women. And a few years ago, when Shrija Shrestha went out shopping for a formal blazer to wear to her workplace, she had to roam around half the town before she found one she could make do with. As someone who has always enjoyed dressing up in formal wear, this frustrated Shrestha and right then, she planned to launch her own formal wear store for women in the future. So now, Shrestha has finally gotten around to this plan of hers and launched Ambassador—a formal wear hub for women.

GENEVA/BUENOS AIRES, Feb 8:  A research base in the Antarctic has recorded the hottest temperature ever for the continent amid rising concern about global warming that has caused an increase in the melting of ice sheets around the south pole.

Having the whole world’s attention is a big deal—it’s not something most of us get in our entire lives. But just in case you did have the world’s attention for five minutes, how would you spend them? The Week asked some people and most of the answers we got were advice and concerns about the environment. Read on for more.

20 ways to help check climate change

January 1, 2020 11:10 am

Climate change is one of the burning issues that countries around the world, including Nepal, are currently facing. It is the abnormal variations to the climate, which is largely attributed to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide and other harmful gases produced as a result of various types of human activities. Global warming, a rise in average global temperature, is said to have resulted from climate change. Here are some tips to address this pressing issue.

Empty Gestures on Climate Change

December 29, 2019 11:21 am

MALMÖ – Switch to energy-efficient light bulbs, wash your clothes in cold water, eat less meat, recycle more, and buy an electric car: we are being bombarded with instructions from climate campaigners, environmentalists, and the media about the everyday steps we all must take to tackle climate change. Unfortunately, these appeals trivialize the challenge of global warming, and divert our attention from the huge technological and policy changes that are needed to combat it.

PHNOM PENH (CAMBODIA), Nov 20: Leaders of different countries including Nepal, the Philippines, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on Tuesday stressed collective efforts to combat poverty, conflict and global warming as they spoke at the Asia Pacific Summit 2019.

When two earth’s lovers meet at a coffee shop, global warming is the universal icebreaker. Extreme heat, the big snowmelt, increasing sea level, floods and droughts for this weekend; it’s all are fair game.

A truly global poll shows that climate change is people’s lowest priority, far behind health

NEW YORK, Feb 19: A scientist who raised early alarms about climate change and popularized the term “global warming” has died. Wallace Smith Broecker was 87.

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: A study has found that one-third of glaciers in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region will melt by the end of the century even if the global target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is achieved.
