KATHMANDU, August 12: Since 2001, on the day of Gaijatra, the Blue Diamond Society (BDS) has been organizing LGBTI Nepal Pride Parade. And this year too, in collaboration with the US Embassy Nepal and Right Here Right Now, the 19th Gaijatral Pride Parade was organized in Kathmandu on Friday.

KATHMANDU, August 24: Huge public gatherings were witnessed in the Bhaktapur Durbar Square area on Monday as people celebrating the Gaijatra festival flooded the area. In normal days, the scene would have been usual but at a time when the country is devastated by the second wave of COVID-19 triggered by the Delta Variant, such gatherings have worried public health experts and the authorities concerned.

On the occasion of Gaijatra, the US Embassy Kathmandu hosted 'Virtual Gaijatra Pride Event', to celebrate LGBTQI+ pride with US Ambassador Randy Berry, activist and human rights activists Angel Lama, author Niranjan Kunwar, and folk singer Prakash Saput on Monday.

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The traditional festival of Gaijatra or the 'cow festival' is being observed from today in the three cities of Kathmandu Valley and some other places in the country amidst the fun, gaiety, humor, satire, and entertainment.

It is always fun to watch prominent actors like, and not limited to, Kiran KC, Shivahari Paudel, Rajaram Paudel, Deepak Raj Giri, Manoj Gajurel, Sangita Gurung and Deepa Shree Niraula on stage. Punch lines delivered by these actors are based on issues pertaining in the society and oftentimes an amalgamation of thoughts that has passed an audience’s mind. However, owing to the binding constraints of society, they remain unsaid.

What differentiated child participants from young boys substituting cows during the Gaijatra festival in Basantapur were artificial mustaches, lipsticks and extra-thick mascara worn by the latter.
