KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The 2023 Human Rights Violation Index shows no decrease in incidents of violence against women, be it in the form of domestic violence or rape cases. The unabated abuse of women accused of being a witch has been covered in the Human Rights Year Book published by INSEC.

SURKHET, Dec 11: Non-gazetted first class Officer Nabraj Sharma Rijal, working in the Ministry of Social Development of Karnali Province, allegedly assaulted his wife Nirmala Kumari Acharya, who is also the head of women and children branch of Bhairabi Rural Municipality of Dailekh on Saturday morning and injured her. KATHMANDU, Nov 26: Of all the gender-based violence recorded in the country, 80 percent cases are found to be domestic violence. According to the Nepal Police data, 53 percent of the cases of domestic violence  are physical violence and 47 percent cases are related to mental violence.

CHITWAN, May 31: Gita Majhi of Khairhani Municipality-10 has died after being severely tortured by her husband. According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, Majhi died last night while undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Hospital.

When I was in high school and college whenever I read or heard stories of abuse and domestic violence I used to blame the woman for having stayed in such a relationship and for allowing things to escalate to such a point. I believed no one could lay a finger on you unless you give that person the power to do so. I was young. And I was naïve.
