CHITWAN, Dec 25: Of the patients who visited the District Hospital, Chitwan since July this year, 243 have been confirmed to have contracted dengue and 286 are scrub typhus patients, said the hospital.
Over the past few weeks, the rise in the number of dengue patients has been alarming to say the least. According to Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, over 5000 people across the country have tested positive for dengue till date. In Kathmandu, over half of the people visiting the Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital are found to be suffering from dengue. What makes matters worse is that the incessant rainfall the capital is witnessing at the moment is believed to bring about a further surge in dengue causing mosquitoes.
POKHARA, Sept 18: Tourism entrepreneurs in Pokhara are worried about the spread of dengue in the city during the peak tourist season. The entrepreneurs' nightmare has turned into reality after some foreign tourists cancelled their Pokhara visit in view of the rising cases of dengue. Businesspersons have urged the government to take adequate measures against dengue to make the people feel safe. They have also asked the media not to leave the people panicked by 'misinforming about the disease'.
KATHMANDU, Sept 16: National Information Commission on Monday has urged the government to make necessary arrangements regarding the dissemination of information to the public about preventive measures against the pandemic of dengue disease.
If dengue was a person fighting for a cause it could have easily been described as a long march to Kathmandu in a bid to seek national validation. Dengue has done well to showcase that we have been arrogant and oblivious of its ability to infect people in thousands and even claim precious lives.
POKHARA, Sept 13: Dengue patients have been found in all districts of the Gandaki Province except for the mountain district of Mustang. Although a dengue patient has been found in Mustang's neighboring district Manang, officials at the Western Regional Health Directorate said the patient had reached there from another district.
Over the past few months, dengue outbreak has been of concern in many districts of Nepal. More than 4,500 people have been infected with dengue virus till the end of August. Deaths are being reported. People are starting to panic, as authorities appear helpless in controlling the outbreak. The outbreak in Kathmandu is likely to get worse, as the city is densely populated and unorganized.
First it was only in hot and humid regions of the plains. So Kathmandu did not feel the heat of the attack. Then it was reported from Dharan, a hill town in eastern Nepal. Kathmandu was alarmed but did not do much to nip the problem in the bud. Now it’s here, in Kathmandu, the capital city.
KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Chakrapani Khanal has been hospitalized after being diagnosed with dengue, a mosquito-borne disease which has been spreading like wildfire across the country.
BIRENDRANAGAR, Sept 4: Dengue, which was common only in the tarai plains in the past, has started to surface in the hills also. According to Dr Kiran KC of the Karnali provincial hospital, the situation is not alarming for now, but precautionary measures need to be taken against mosquito bites.
Dengue, also nicknamed breakbone fever and now emerging as a serious public health threat to Nepal, is a viral disease caused by virus belonging to Flaviviridae family closely related to four different serotypes—DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4. That’s why an individual can be infected with a dengue virus as many as four times in her or his lifetime.
CHITWAN, Aug 28: Three persons died of dengue and scrub typhus since mid-July this year in the district. According to the District Health Office, Chitwan, of the deceased, two are from Chitwan and one from Rautahat.
KATHMANDU, AUG 24: As the fear of dengue spreads in Kathmandu, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is planning to launch sanitation and cleanliness campaign. Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital (STIDH) at Teku has witnessed at least 42 dengue patients since April.
POKHARA, Aug 18: The tourist city of Pokhara has also come under the grip of dengue. In just two weeks, Pokhara has recorded 79 dengue cases. The disease which has already infected over 3,200 people in Sunsari district over the past three months was detected in Pokhara on August 1.
UDAYAPUR, Aug 13: Nilam Khadka, 24, and Chitra Bahadur Dahal, 43, of Katari Municipality-3, Udayapur have been found infected with dengue. The district’s Katari Hospital said these are among the rarest cases in the district.
DHARAN, August 7: Government's attention has been drawn towards an epidemic of dengue in Dharan of Sunsari. Speaking in a zero hour of the House of Representatives today, lawmaker Meena Subba apprised the session that each house in the town had dengue patients and two women had so far succumbed to a dengue fever which is caused a virus that spreads through mosquito bites.
INARUWA, Aug 4: Although it was declared some days back that dengue was brought under control here, seven persons from the same family have been found suffering from dengue at Inaruwa-4 of Sunsari, according to Inaruwa municipality.
