ROLPA, Jan 14: Built with mud and stones decades ago, the classrooms of Saraswati Secondary School in Pang, a remote village of Rolpa, are not safe anymore. It looks like the structures could collapse anytime, and the school principal feels no different. However, in the lack of budget to erect new buildings, the school with over 500 students has been running classes in the dilapidated rooms.
GORKHA, July 31: The reconstruction of school buildings ravaged by the devastating earthquakes of 2015 has slowed down again in Gorkha, compelling thousands of students to study under tents since the last few years.
While going through his list of classmates, Janardan Subedi, 22, recalls that nearly 60-70 percent of them were working part time. These aren’t college classmates that he is talking about but school classmates. Having studied in Pashupati Mitra High School around 20 minutes walk from home, he considered it to be the norm.
How to protect the environment is what worries most environmentalists at present. They believe the end is soon if we do not take necessary precautions to stop the environmental crisis caused by the irresponsibility of human beings. This is not as easy as we think but we can begin it from our classroom. Our text books have taught a lot about deforestation, and disasters as a result to our students. They are better informed about it, and can write some good paragraphs on it as well, but we still lack enough provisions of eco-friendly concepts to in our classroom teaching.
GORKHA, March 22: Rajani Miya, a primary level student was reading Nepali lesson loudly when another student, Binaya Baniya, started reading a story from his English textbook equally loudly. They would pause in the middle and look at each other and carry on. Other students were busy doing their class work in the same classroom. This classroom scenario was from the Nimel Primary School in Saurapani, during an afternoon last week.
MYAGDI (REPUBLICA): Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel said that the trend of teachers entering school premises with political motive would be brought to an end. He stressed the need to select teachers on the basis of their qualification rather than under pressure from political parties.
