Child labor continues to remain a pervasive problem even after three decades of collaborative efforts for its prohibition and regulation in Nepal. According to the Nepal Child Labor Report 2021 prepared by the International Labor Organisation (ILO), 1.1 million children aged 5 to 17 years are engaged in child labor (in 2018) compared to 2.6 million (in 1998).

TULSIPUR, Feb 20: Brick kilns in Tulsipur Sub-metropolis of Dang are found employing child labor. It has been found that there are around 350 child laborers working in the brick industries within the sub-metropolis.

GORKHA, Nov 4: Nepal Army, known for opening track at the toughest sites in the country has taken the responsibility of constructing the Benighat–Larke road track near the Nepal-China border. While the army is busy blasting rocks and leveling the track for further construction, children are also seen working alongside with their elder family members. They carry stones, clear the passage and dig the earth surface. Currently, the army is opening 118 kilometers of the total of 183 kilometers road section.

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Nepal must remove all existing obstacles that hinder victims of torture and forced labor in filing complaints, the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) said in a decision published in Geneva on Tuesday.

DANG, May 19: Although the campaign against child labor and child marriage is creating waves at Tulsipur sub-metropolis in Dang district, cases of child labor and child marriage continue to be reported unabated here.

CHITWAN, April 9: The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has launched a “National Master Plan 2075-2085 BS” to abolish child labor. The master plan aims to eradicate child labor from 50 local units in the first year.  The first stage has begun with a program targeting to abolish child labor from 17 such local units.

ROLPA, Dec 27: Two child labors working in Khanal Brick Klin, Chitwa were rescued after combined efforts from local child protection committee and school. The two children were taken to Chitwan from Tribeni rural municipality-2 after middlemen lured the parents.

MUMBAI, Oct 15: In a massive raid in Mulund, the Juvenile Aid Protection Unit (JAPU) rescued 21 underage labourers who had been brought from Nepal and Bihar for working in Mumbai.
