KATHMANDU, April 18: United Nations rapporteurs and the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances have expressed serious concerns over lack of impartiality, independence and transparency in the procedures adopted for the appointment of members of two transitional justice mechanisms of Nepal.

Parliament has endorsed the government’s proposal to extend the terms of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) for one more year with a possibility of further extension by one more year on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Two weeks after the government endorsed an ordinance clearing legal hurdles to extend the tenure of the Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP), the transitional justice body on Wednesday wrote to the government urging the latter to increase its term by one year. CIEDP's term will expire on February 9.
