By all means, we are living through the most dangerous times in history since the World War II. Countries are being ravaged by the disease, economies are falling apart, people are dying.  Even the countries with supposedly the best health systems—America, Germany, France, UK, for example— are failing to save their citizens. Italy alone lost over 700 people on Sunday. The world is in panic. In Nepal, we do not have resources needed to put things in place.  Despite this, the government has taken some of the measures to keep the country and people safe from the contagion of the pandemic.

KATHMANDU, March 22: Hundreds of Nepali nationals returning home from India everyday has heightened the risk of spreading coronavirus in the country. Even though Nepal so far remains officially “free” from coronavirus infection, the lack of proper screening of the masses at the border points has left little room for Nepal to remain free from the threat of the deadly virus.

KATHMANDU, March 21: Announcing a slew of measures to contain the possible spread of the novel coronavirus, Prime Minister KP Oli in an address to the nation on Friday urged people not to be panicked by the current situation but to take necessary precautions to stay safe.

KATHMANDU, March 20: As the novel coronavirus spreads across the globe including South Asia, the Nepal government is thinking about closing all borders crossing points with the southern neighbor.

TAPLEJUNG, March 17: Chinese workers engaged with the Tamor Hydropower Project in Taplejung have been frequently moving to their home and back to work at the construction site despite the government's announcement of travel restriction to China. The government has sealed all border points expect a few major ones in view of the coronavirus outbreak. The project officials have however claimed that there is no possibility of those workers spreading coronavirus.

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: The government has set up health desks in various border points to screen suspected cases of coronavirus.
