KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The last rites of legendary climber Ang Rita Sherpa, who passed away on Monday at the age of 84, were performed in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The government has decided to perform the last rites of the legendary climber Ang Rita Sherpa, who passed away on Monday, with state honors.

Ang Rita Sherpa, the only person to conquer Mount Everest 10 times without supplemental oxygen, was born on July 27, 1948 in Yillajung of Solukhumbu district in Nepal.

Ang Rita Sherpa, also known as Himchituwa, died at 72 on Monday. He successfully climbed Sagarmatha 10 times, and holds a Guinness Book of World Records for climbing Sagarmatha the most times without Oxygen. A native of Solukhumbu, Ang Rita was a giant of Nepali mountaineering.
